Benjamin Franklin once said that in this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes.
After 8+ years in entrepreneurship, I can tell you that nothing in business is certain but problems (and also taxes).
I share that idea with you today not to get you down but to give you hope.
Hear me out.
I'm in the middle of some big problems right now:
• We're in a BIG cash crunch due to the conference.
• We've got to figure out some problematic language in our CFO employment agreement.
• We're launching a new service (that we've already sold) and it's behind schedule.
• The lease on our Dallas office is ending soon. Next steps aren't clear but the clock is ticking.
• Both of my businesses need more of my time but I'm out of time to give. I've got to solve for this ASAP.
• My firm needs more clients.
Those are just the 6 that came to my mind first.
There are 10 or 30 more not on this list.
No doubt you have a similar list in your own firm.
You probably have some of the same issues.
You probably have some others.
But I know you have a list.
It's easy to look at lists like these and draw some self-defeating conclusions.
It's easy to say that with problems like these,
• We don't belong in the seat,
• We're in over our heads,
• We should just give up.
Nah.
Problems just mean that you're in the game and making moves.
Heck, you're better off than Jay-Z. He's got 99 problems.
In all seriousness, problems are necessary.
They provide the tension and stress that improve your strength and resiliency. You need that improved strength and resiliency to survive at the next level that's coming your way soon.
Remember that you and your problems are in great company—me, you, and everyone else in the game has them.
In entrepreneurship, times change, but problems don't.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get back to work.
